When I was a little kid, I didn’t play with dolls or house like other girls. By choice and primarily by circumstance, I was a loner. I spent hours playing teacher-student games by myself. I was the teacher explaining a concept to myself, the student. The student wouldn’t get it most of the time, so the teacher would come up with all kinds of ways, including stories to patiently explain to my student self. LOL! I still do that!
So here it goes with another story.
Let’s say you want to start and grow your business.
You have the chance to talk to a billionaire radio show host; let’s call him Skyler, who’s willing to be your mentor- for free and for however long you want! You start jumping with joy. Who wouldn’t? He starts talking to you. He has a soft, gentle, caring, and joyful voice.
But in between, you catch the frequency of another small-town radio show host, let’s call him Bob, who barely has made a profit of $5000 with his business ventures. He’s clever; he’s bombastic and enthusiastic; he can convince you of anything and is quite a salesman. He believes that he’s got all the correct answers. No, no, actually, he thinks he’s right all the time. He’s quite a con artist. He’ll con you into accepting his mentorship for free, but he’ll end up deceiving you out of lots of money. He’s a liar, but the naive you have no idea of his game.
Not only Bob sidetracks you from listening to Skyler, but he ends up getting you emotionally wound up into being convinced to follow his mentorship instead. The net result is that you tune out Skyler and start listening to Bob.
The clever Bob finds out all your weak points. He locates your triggers to push all your buttons. He injects fear into you and keeps you hooked.
In between, though, part of you keeping feeling that you should be listening to Skyler too. But as soon as you start tuning into Skyler, Bob jumps right in and uses every tactic imaginable to grab your attention again. He makes up stories, gets you all emotional, and makes you tune out Skyler completely.
As time goes by while following Bob’s mentorship, you see many ups and downs; you suffer many losses, go through a lot of stress, and have many health issues. Sometimes you don’t know to laugh or cry. You think, “This is not what I signed up for.” There is just too much confusion at many junctures. Bob has you vested in projects so profoundly that even if you see them as potential losses, you don’t have the courage or clarity to decide to pull out of them. You are running round and round in circles, feeling lost.
It’s almost like Bob is a proverbial vampire. He needs your blood to keep his power. He can’t exist without you, so he has to try everything to keep you in his control. By hook or crook, he’s taken over not just your business mentorship but your whole life. He practically possesses you.
Where are you going to seek solace for your stress? Wherever you turn, you see that Bob has been able to get to everyone around you. They have been in Bob’s clutches, too; they are stressed out too and entirely lost too, more or less.
You pray, pray and pray. And pray some more.
Out of the blue, John appears. John tells you how Bob has utterly duped you, and his intention is only to control you and your destruction. He tells his own story too of how once Bob once took him in but how, with courage and determination, he could get out of Bob’s iron grip. Now he’s wholly thriving and has become a billionaire himself by following Skyler’s mentorship.
You are immensely thankful to John for coming your way to open your eyes. You decide no matter what, you’ll start tuning into Skyler’s station to listen to him. However, when you start doing that, Bob’s starts trying much newer and newer tactics to get to you.
You approach John tearfully in anguish to guide you. John, out of compassion, agrees to help you out. He gives you immense encouragement and inspiration. He shows you all the ways you can let go of Bob’s control of you.
The guidance John gives you is to ignore Bob. He tells you not to say anything to him. Not only that, to not react in any way to anything Bob says.
If Bob tries to make you feel guilty for leaving him, don’t fall into the trap. Just ignore him.
He might make you fearful that you can’t exist without him. Just ignore him.
He might tell you how you should regret all the time you wasted on him. Just ignore him.
He might remind you of all the work you have pending to get you to react. Just ignore him.
Bob will threaten you, scare you, be sweet to you, convince you. Just ignore him.
Just ignore Bob, he tells you, and keep concentrating upon Skyler’s voice. Again and again and again, keep bringing your focus gently and calmly back to Skyler’s voice.
The more you become successful in tuning into Skyler’s station, the subtler ways Bob will try to meddle. You will not be able to catch that extremely subtle shrewdness, but John says he knows how to capture those, that he’ll keep an eye out for you. John will alert you right away.
So this way, with a lot of counseling and hand-holding from John, you can connect back to Skyler’s radio frequency and get the mentorship you needed. You and your business start thriving. You are on your way to becoming a billionaire yourself.
Bob will lose all his power because you are not feeding him anymore. He’ll become your servant. He’ll speak only when you want him to speak.
You are forever grateful to John, who connected you to Skyler. You and Skyler become best of friends forever and ever.
The End.
Let’s introduce the Actors here in this story:
Skyler is our own Divine Self or also called The Presence or The Self.
You are the individual Consciousness
Bob is your mind (thoughts, imagination)
John is the Enlightened Master, the True Guru, the Satguru.
Guru: is the physical embodiment of your own Divine Self.
Why is the physical presence of your Divine Self necessary?
Your mind has so much control over you, or you can say you’ve allowed yourself to be in mind’s loud, noisy deceitful control so much that you’ve become deaf to your very own Self communicating with you. Since you can’t hear your Self from inside, he takes a physical form to communicate with you face to face.
Guru is whole. He is complete in himself and by himself. He needs and wants nothing from you except the joy of guiding you back to your own invisible Divine Self. He wants to hand you back to your Self. He’s holy and wholly embodiment of pure love and compassion.
He teaches you how to practice ignoring the mind and its entanglements by different methods best suited to your temperament. When the mind tries to take over control again, Guru intervenes to guide and protect you.
Connecting back to the Self in you, you become alive. You feel freer. You have more energy. You experience stillness. You get to know what True Love is. You find out that the Mind game was a trap. Instead of the narrow, constricted, and limited paths of the mind, your life is full of vast unlimited space of the Self.
So who will you listen to?
Forever grateful to the Guru,
Ritu
